Stoic and i headed south this weekend to the Wuliaochien Trail for a three hour hike. It started out pretty typical of most hicks with some easy rope climbs but eventually got more exciting with a sheer rock peak that was kinda scary!! Overall, best hike yet!!!!

Our Visit Home
We had three weeks of vacation from work so we headed home. It had been something like five years since we had been back to Ohio and about two and a half years since we’d been to Portland. Ohio was great in that we caught up with our family and some longtime friends! Portland was great because we were able to just relax and swim, drink, eat, ect…

Kenting 2009
stoic and i jumped on the High Speed Rail and headed back to Kenting for an extended weekend! it was awesome. first our hotel room was not ready when we arrived so they upgraded us, no charge, to one of the nicest rooms in the hotel. the hotel itself had everything we needed like: a tunnel to the beach, English newspaper @ the door every morning, swimming pool & sauna, scooter rental, game room, 7-11 (of course!!) restaurant (free western breakfast) so forth and so on!!
we spent most of our time on the beach and managed to not get burned. we did some snorkeling scooted around the national park, ate lots of good food and really really relaxed!

Dragonboat holiday 2009
we headed up to Danshui during the Dragonboat holiday and spent the day at the beach getting pummeled by the waves and burned by the sun. at the beach we met up with some friends and eventually made our way back to Danshui with them for the evening. Danshui was nutty with parades and people celebrating. we made our way through the crowds and eardrum piercing firecrackers. it was a surreal and some what apocalyptic evening that ended at the temple of the god of justice where gangsters danced, drummed and set of fireworks before unloading there ghost money. Taiwan is awesome!!

swivel's b-day-o-carnage
this past friday was my birthday, so me and a large group of teachers made our way to the local food and drink night market. we started the evening with beer of course but then took a turn towards the strange. by the end of the evening i had consumed a lot of beer and every edible part of a duck plus chickens feet. overall, it was one of my most memorable birthdays. Taiwan Rocks!!

Around The Island In 24 Hours
Our friend Patrick was able to borrow a car for the weekend so we took a road trip around the island. Near Taiyuan, on the east coast, we where able to check out some Macaque monkeys. Next, we headed to Taitung to get some dinner at Kasa. After dinner we made our way south to Taimali beach which is well known for it’s sunrises. We set up camp there and built a fire. The next morning we woke early for the sunrise but it was too cloudy. After packing up our tents we headed out for Kaohsiung where we ate lunch and did some exploring before heading back to Taipei. All in all, it was a lot of fun but a little too much time in a car!!
